century
ago, when television did not exist, newsreels were shown in cinemas.
They offered
to millions of spectators during several years the unique window
on small and big events from the world.
Created
50 years ago, by newsreels producers, the International Newsreel
and News Film Association (INNA) enriched the News thanks to an
international exchange network of images.
In
1956, 8 countries, involving 13 newsreels companies, met in Brussels
for INNA first General Assembly. Among them:
Blick
in die Welt (Germany, Deutsche UFA Wochenschau (Germany), Incom
(Italy), Belgavox (Belgium), Eclair Journal (France), Pathé
(France), Polygoon (Netherlands), No Do (Spain).
More
than 100 companies joined INNA during the following years from countries
such as USSR, United States, China, Japan, Mexico but also newsreels
companies from newly created African countries.
Today,
Inna's members keep in their hands a unique treasure: their
archives. The only filmed memory from the very first years
of the cinema.
After
having informed the world about current events, those images are
the memory of the XXth century. INNA's members join today
to give a future to this heritage.
